The Edge of Arameth

Shoutout to the mods at /r/nosleepworkshops for verifying my identity when I uploaded this there in its incomplete form. They didn't want anyone piggybacking off Necropotence at creepypasta, which is awesome of them. I guess some people would be insulted but I'm actually grateful for people out there that are thorough enough to protect the works of the digital horror community's contributors!

Here's the draft of what I have so far. This story is a sequel to Necropotence, a prequel to War of the Dead, and a close cousin to The First of the Three.

Thanks for reading. I'm beat after cranking out over 7,000 words on this badboy in one night. Sleep well readers!

So, Liquid Blue is done in my humble opinion, but until my mother critiques it (she's my #1 editor), I won't be sending it anywhere. The full version can be accessed right now on GoogleDocs. If the ending or any of the exposition seems wrong or off to you, you have about a week before I finalize it. If there's a scene, character, or some juicy idea you have about how it should go down, then let me know. A series is for the fans, after all. The continuity and connectedness of it. I understand, and I might be one of the only big hitters on CP/NS/Horror Tree/Pseudopod that takes fan requests on the plot of a story. I'm mighty proud of that, to say the least.

While Liquid Blue marinates and develops some flavor with age, I've started the next entry in the Necropotence arc that continues after "The First of the Three'." It's incomplete and I'm working on it right this very moment, but what I have so far can be previewed if you'd like. Just e-mail me. I'll be putting it on on NoSleep after a change of heart, since anything in the first person is technically qualified to be on that subreddit.

After that, I may finish out that series or write a standalone. I'm not sure. I'm also tinkering with the idea of writing a sequel to Install. We'll see where my sick mind takes me in the next few days.

Stay warm, kiddos.

Liquid Blue Complete

We finished this bad boy at almost 16,000 words. This is my longest short story ever. What a freaking beast it was. It was an adventure and didn't really go in the direction I thought it would. I'm happy with it though. Truly, I am. We'll see how creepypasta and the fans receive it.

Liquid Blue

I've been writing nonstop every day and it's time to step away from it and go to the gym. We'll see if there's any writer's remorse tonight, and if there is, we'll add on or delete or make edits if we need to.

Whew, VH out! Enjoy!

Liquid Blue Progress

Okay, so we're 9,000 words in and just starting to hit the true "horror" moments of the sequel. I also have yet to introduce the real villain and in 3k more words I'll be at Anhedonius length, so I'm thinking this story is going to end up being like a 15-20k word monster. That's ok though! I want to do it justice, as the content hits very close to home with me and the themes are pulled directly from my life experience. Anyway, I haven't sent it to the beta reader circle yet and I probably won't until it's at least 70-80% complete, but if anyone wants to peruse it and share their thoughts on what they think should happen or what they would like to see, then by all means, reach out to me on gmail or Facebook. This is for you, readers, after all. I don't want to pull a Necromaster and fall short when the previous content is some of my best work.

I'm going to put up a Facebook badge on my overlay here soon so any new visitors can add me as a friend too, but in the meantime, if you're not friends with me on FB, then please please PLEASE e-mail me.

Okay! Back to work. We'll see where we end up before this finger really starts hurting and I pass out from creative exhaustion.

Cheers, and once again, hit me up!

Liquid Blue (incomplete)

Meta: I got a Boo-Boo, but it's gonna let me write more to boo you.

So the only major thing that was keeping me from writing every single day was work, and, because of a very horrific injury that I sustained while working yesterday, I'll be off for a pretty good stretch to heal up. Normally I wouldn't post real life pictures on this blog, but since it's a horror blog and I describe so much violent gore in my stories, I think it's fitting to toss this on here. This is what happened when I smashed my finger performing some engineering maintenance and it is the most wicked and gnarly injury I've ever had. I'm sorry for the graphic nature of it but if you're a regular, then I was already giving you nightmares way before this post.

Anyway, in light of this, I'm on workman's comp for awhile and I'll be adding to Liquid Blue, the Necropotence series, and even some fresh new standalone shorts with my loads of free time as I sit on my butt and wait for this thing to heal. I've gotten LB to 7700 words. I'm almost to the halfway point for it, and I'm just now reintroducing David in his not-so-glorious and gruesome return.

The Mad Catter, who narrated my story Anhedonius in a much more spectacular fashion than NoSleep or Pseudopod or Chilling Tales for Dark Nights EVER could, is basically collaborating with me on my sequel to make sure it lives up to its predecessor. He is a fantastic writer himself, but also happens to be the best voice actor I've ever heard in my life, and I've listened to over 500 Pseudopod episodes, every NSP since season 2, and everything from MrCreepyPasta and all his copycats on Youtube. That's saying something. Please give him some support on his Patreon or at the very least, listen to some of his stories at:

He does all the classics like Edgar Allen Poe, H.P Lovecraft, and other old-school standalones like The Monkey's Paw, plus some more popular NS stories (Penpal, Pancake Family, etc.), and pretty much any CPasta worth listening to. I'm trying to talk him in to narrating my new and polished version of Install which will feature a more drawn out and fitting battle between the creature and the protagonist instead of a few paragraphs of anti-climactic shortfall, which is the only weakness for that story in my humble opinion.

Where are we with new publications and the new VH compilation? You ask. Well, we're locked in to Kindle for the time being since I have about 6-7 shorts out in submissions and can't sell them as my own until those submissions are accepted or denied. Yeah, that whole "rights" thing. It can be a real beyotch. As far as some of my previous goals, I've certainly changed my attitude with would constitute "success" as an amateur horror author. I'm a creepypasta A-lister with Josef K and Mike W and many others, and that's a great honor, but as far as reddit goes, I'm done.

So yeah, we're getting some work done while being off work. Yay. And here's this disgusting finger of mine at the emergency room before they cleaned me up and stitched it back on. Now I know how Byron from "Install" felt. Haha! Thanks for reading and I hope to bring you some finished manuscripts soon.

Well, I've taken on a writing partner and I'm trying to find some voice actors to narrate some of my old stories with me, namely Install. I'm looking to either make a Soundcloud stream or get in to actual podcasting but that will be awhile before it's official.

In the meantime, I'm still adding slowly to the Anhedonius sequel (LB) and I'm trying to edit out the specifics of the underworld culture that have gone over a lot of beta reader's heads. I'm just now getting to the actual juicy exposition of that story and I'll have some meat on the bones of it pretty soon.

Hope fall finds you well! If you're interested in voicing some characters or joining my beta reader circle then please contact me at drew.wilcox@gmail.com . I'll be twisting in some stuff from my writing partner that blends his world and the Argus corporation with Mercer to create a mini fictional universe.

Meta: Sales

I'm dropping my first short story collection and Nethergame down price wise. I've sold as many copies as I can expect to sell at a premium price. Given that my first novel is 80,000 words and it took me a year to write, five years later I suppose it's just time to get it out there to whoever still wants it, or any newcomers who are finding out about me on NoSleep, the new CP, etc.

Not a huge announcement, but if you're strapped for cash and haven't read any of the the old school stuff, go for it. It's quite different than my style and voice now, I must say, like reading Stephen King's Carrie vs. reading Mr. Mercedes or Doctor Sleep, but that's not a bad thing. We are always growing as writers. I think in our infancy, we copy what we read, and our tone subconsciously mimics our favorite authors. That is certainly true for me with Agatha Christie, Orson Scott Card, Jonathan Franzen, and the King of Creepy himself. I think I am slowly starting to come in to my own with the new stuff though. I am satisfied. For the first time in years, truly, I am satisfied.

Cheers. Links below if you want them for my Amazon marketplace stuff. You can get Nethergame for three bucks now, and the shorts for a buck. It will take 72 hours for the price changes to take effect, so you'll have to wait a couple days. Their rules, not mine, sorry!

Here's your Anhedonius sequel introduction. I have my table of contents, word count goals, and introductions for the majority of the 13 stories that will be in the new compilation. I think I'm going to call it "Noctoirnal: 13 Tales of Shadow and Intrigue." It's like nocturnal and noir combined in one word. C what I did there?

Liquid Blue Intro

I'm going to rewrite Necropotence, War of the Dead, and Necromaster. Not completely, but I'll be adding a lot of meat to it. Instead of creepypasta skeletons, I'm going to flesh them out in to 6k-12k standalones that flow and connect together much more completely. Add your First of the Three, Full Circle, and the Edge of Arameth to that, and you have six stories of the thirteen centering around that story arc, and two from the Liquid Blue universe. The other five will include a somewhat sequel to Install, a rewrite of my very first story ever from the Monolith forum (it was called Doctor but I'll be renaming it), and a couple of surprises.

Oh yeah, if you haven't heard The Mad Catter's rendition of Anhedonius, he did an amazing job and you can listen to that here:

Anhedonius 1-3

Anhedonius 4-8

I'm actually glad he got to it first before NoSleep because they DID want it, but they selected a new person to narrate it that I've never heard of before and after looking through her stuff, I just don't think she was the right fit. And truly, how can you put a female narrator on a male lead's thoughts and feelings? Not saying it hasn't been done, but um.... David C, what the fuck were you thinking?

Anyways, that's where we're at now. I'll get some full stories up soon, although they won't be here, and they'll only be readable/listenable if a Podcast or Derpbutt picks them up. Hope your summer was awesome, readers!

Here's a progress update so far:

Intro complete. I wrote a sort of poem/epitaph that's etched on the stones in the Gaelic ruins where the coven temple once stood. The back story of how the necromancer/druid clan split came about is completely detailed in a sort of epic Illiad/Inferno canto, with a modern group of college students stumbling across it during a grad school project. What happens to them as a result of disturbing the ruins will really add some meat to the series and drop some hints about what lays ahead in the second and third installments of the original Necropotence character and how he will go about trying to raise the dead on earth.

The second part of the "First of the Three" series, also part of the Necropotence arc. In the previous installments we know there's a stone that he uses to absorb blood and manipulate life energy, and a bladed kris that he carries everywhere, always incorporating it in to his rituals and all that. The stone and the kris are both artifacts that play a very key role in the entire thing and they are almost characters of their own. I intend to make this story a sort of hunting, serial killer diary about the poor sap that the blade chooses to carry out its requirement for 30 souls, since the nether doesn't allow the original necromancer to complete the sacrifices without having someone do it for him. The reason for that and the flavor this adds will also be a great addition to the arc. We're about 1,000 words in to this one.

Liquid Blue (short story version):

I'm a little stuck. I'm not sure if I'll bring back Anhedonius Alpha and have him return (and I do have a good, non plot hole explanation for how he comes back after incinerating himself in a furnace). It may be a story told through the eyes of a lot of other junkies and how Mercer floods the streets with a sort of grand experiment that results in furthering his agenda. Part of it may be told by Mercer himself. Maybe it will all be Mercer. Maybe it will be Mercer, junkies, and Alpha, all mishmashed together. I'm not sure yet. Oh yeah, the whole vampire story arc is completely axed, only because there are too many people doing it, and it's just tired and overdone and I want to stand out with something unique. My take on them, as they are a favorite horror topic on mine.... well, it doesn't matter. I'll write some shorts about them, but the novel I was writing that merges Necropotence and LB together is just too grand, too tryhard, too ribbony, and it's been very painful for me to admit that I have to just throw out 50,000 words of multiple leapfrogged years of work, but you have to make the tough calls and cut something if it's been sitting in your slush pile for three years.

This is a fun little standalone story about a murderous entity that possesses its victims, and the man who is hunting it and its vessels in order to rid the world of it for good. I have a pretty good outline for this one, unlike everything else, since it's an independent story like Install. I've been devoting more time to this since I really want a standalone more than adding on to my previous series. We're about 6k words in to this one and it may cap out around 12-15k like Anhedonius. I am really looking forward to putting up a draft on GoogleDocs but it's not quite ready yet.

If you're in my beta reader circle or you've been editing for me, I want to say thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I've been working 60-70 hours a week and although I force myself to bust out 2-3k words when I get home before I pass out, the quality of that writing is definitely lower than when I have a day off and put in 4-5 hours on something, and without Marianne, Ashley, Monika Lain, Robel, the Mad Catter, Elias, Josef .... damn, there are so many more, but I owe you the world. If I left you out, you know who you are, and I am eternally grateful in your debt.

I hope your summer is going well. This is the best one I've had in 5 years. This past Sunday night at a Pathway meeting, I celebrated six months clean and sober with no drugs or alcohol. It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, to earn a little chip that's worth less than five cents. But what it represents? Freedom. For me, that means the shackles are gone, my brain is normal again, and my creative juices aren't dilluted with poison. It's so good to be back, to be healthy, to be moving forward towards goals I set for myself back in 2011-2012, even though those goals stagnated under the weight of addiction for so long.

My next post will 1000% guaranteed include a GoogleDoc link for something, even if it's incomplete. I promise. And even though many of my promises have been empty and worthless in the past, I hope I'm proving to my faithful readers that they carry weight again.

Meta: Goals, Ideas, Self-Imposed Deadlines

So our next project before 6/1/17 will be the second of the three series, about the gathering of the thirty souls necessary for the cogath ritual, and then maybe we'll jump right in to the third entry, about the child. Not completely sure on that one.

I also have an idea marinating about the actual artifacts in Necropotence, both the scrying stone and the actual kris blade that the necromancer uses in every story. I also want to write an Anhedonius sequel, which will be a short story titled Liquid Blue, and it will certainly be a 20,000 word monster successor that will have to be good enough to do its original predecessor justice. That means very strict editing and probably a good month before it's ready.

I dunno though. I guess writing down a cold hard date helps keep me accountable, so I'm less likely to veg out on gaming and more likely to start writing when I get home from work in the mornings. On the flip side, I have a golf/tennis/basketball/gym buddy and he is going hard in the paint, kicking my ass and holding me physically accountable for this recovering meatbag of skinny-ass seagull meat that I call my body.

I have to say though, the start of my summer is going very well, and I hope it is for you too, readers. Thanks for all your recent support.

Feel free to e-mail me or add me on Facebook if you haven't already. Putting a face to all the names and connecting with my audience is the most rewarding thing ever. Seriously, I love it and I love you all.

Cheers, stay cool!

Retiring all the old stuff and revamping this with post 2015 material. Just general housekeeping.

Meta Betas

So that beta reader mailing list they put on CP is like the single best thing ever because it might as well be called "somebody awesome will read your story for almost as much time as you took to write it, edit it for free, and then thank you for sending it."

There about five of you, but especially Monika Lain-Shaw, not sure if you'll ever read this post, but thank you so much for patching up my crap! Seriously, you are the best.

Feedback about what is bad is what I expected because I also knew it was bad. Cookie cutter dialogue, too many of the same phrases/descriptions in multiple stories, the list goes on, but the cool thing is that if you can not do much for a couple years and then start back with something that isn't complete garbage, then maybe you're faring alright.

I'm thinking about jumping away from all this series stuff and doing some standalones since I need about five or six of them anyway. At least like 30-40k wordcount, which will take awhile.

It's all good in the hood though.

The First of the Three

This is part of the Necropotence series. I plan to do three of these, as each one would be one of the critical pieces that the original character needs to conclude his story. I hope derpbutt accepts it. I'm seriously not sure if it's good or not. Let me say this, though.

To be perfectly and brutally honest with myself, I hate Necromaster. I hate that it's a journal entried, passive piece of passive voice crap. It grants a lot of detail, with no action, no climax, no real imagery to conclude the series. We're going to ask derpbutt to take it down, finish these three pieces, and then rewrite that sucker completely. I hate to pull a mulligan on it, but if Stephen King can end the Dark Tower series and then apologetically tell his audience that he hates it and it's terrible, then I can do this. The difference is, I'm going to actually re-attempt mine, whereas his is going to be a movie that would have to end with a new conclusion, or suffer a huge letdown. (Think Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series, ugh). So yeah, every writer does it. My bad. I took a crap all over my most epic series, but I'll do my best to clean it up from here.

I think this one has campy parts of cornyness to it, but it's a kid, so maybe that's why it comes off that way. I think the vision/dream sequences turned out really well. Any suggestions on it are welcome, as I have to write the child portion, and the 30 souls portion of this series as well.

Thanks for reading as always, and be gentle. I wrote this one after a two year hiatus and it hurt so good.

So I haven't taken a vacation in something like five years, and going to the beach for a week was what I needed, apparently. I have ideas running through my head constantly. I guess that's why a lot of writers seclude themselves in a faraway place for inspiration.

The feedback on Anhedonius is solid so far and I really appreciate those who took the time to read it. Before I send anything else to derpbutt or assault nosleep with anything else, I want it to marinate on there for at least a week and see if it has the potential for a nomination, at the very least.

I don't really have much else to ramble about, though. It feels good to be back. I can't stagnate or lose momentum, and cranking out a second novel is definitely my ultimate goal, if not at least a novella that's over 20k or 30k words.

We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I love you all, as always.

Anhedonius Completed

Gonna send it to Derpbutt and the NoSleep folks, we'll see what people think. GoogleDoc link if you want to read it:

Thanks for reading!
